Bought a LX 470 and I love it to death. Also need a mechanic in Columbus

I've driven my fair share of cars. Everything from a i8 to a Superleggera. But the most satisfying experience has been the ownership of my 2000 LX 470 the past 2 days. I've already put 150 miles on top of the 170k miles on the car.

The truck is just so utilitarian and basic. Driving is such a joy. It's snowing and freezing rain, but I love the thing to death. A steal at 5800 dollars. It needs some work, but thats ok. Anyone know of a detailer or a good mechanic in Columbus?

$5800 is a steal for a hundo under 200k miles. rust? There is really something about these trucks that gets under your skin. I was thinking about it yesterday; I love that 80, its the car i feel most at home at when I get into it. its slow, loud, gets terrible mileage and always needs something (upgrade, mod or tweak)....but I can't not love driving it.

There are a couple things that need to be addressed. The Nakamichi sound system is done for. Only the radio works and the antenna is also broken. I've been using an FM transmitter. The interior is pretty dirty, needs a good detail. The front leather seats are pretty well worn. The upper decklid is beginning to show signs of rust, I need to get another one from a junkyard or ebay (any leads). I also need to change the AHC fluid and the Trans fluid. Other than that runs awesome.

I posted on ih8mud and everyone was telling me that I literally stole it from the owner. Keep your eyes peeled, there are good deals out there. Go for the Landcruiser if you wanna save money. Buy from a private party always.

you on ih8mud yet? They are your best resource. The leather on these trucks gets beat fast, so thats no news. Do you know when the last major service was done? (Timing belts, rear axle bearings, fluid flush)? Its best practice with these guys to baseline right up front (all new fluids, especially coolant, ps and trans) which i would do. What year? 4 speed or 5?, lastly...plans for it? Commuter of trail rig?

We're working on finding more garage space with attached living quarters. But once we have that settled I will try to find one for sure.

it's really more truck than I need, but my patents live on a gravel mountain pass in VA, and I know one of those would make it there no matter what the weather.

A Columbus Oppo! Awesome. I recommend the IPS store up on Lewis Center. Super high quality shop. I recommend joining ColumbusRacing if you haven't. This forum is a bit different. You gotta have a tough skin then they will approve you. The reason why? IPS sponsors CR and you get a 10% labor discount if you're a member.

I love it to death man. FJ80's are super nice too. I liked this one because it just has some more creature comforts than the 80.

Yep first thing I did was make an account on ih8mud. I posted on the 100 page. I know the timing belt was done recently. But I am planning on doing the AHC, Trans, Coolant etc soon. It's a 2000, so it does have the 4 speed. And yep commuter.

I just drove 80 miles in freezing rain and snow with no problem. The area where I park behind my house is all slush and gravel. It had no problem. Best of luck finding one. My advice is to keep looking often, and try to buy one from the South or the Southwest.

I would have to sell one or both my 4wd Tercels... I already own a longbed... It's just so tempting. This thing is a truck, SUV, and 4wd wagon all in one... Next car is a Celica or FJ55

tell them I referred you, my sn over there is prd2bdf.

IPS worked on my old Saab,alignments and when they sheared a camber bolt, they called around and drove around trying to find one to replace it. They didn't even charge me for the bolt. Super nice people. They know their shit. Often builds high performance cars. Their shop car is a Z06 that is turboed and runs 6.8 on stock IRS.

Very nice! Hopefully that thing treats you well. Growing up, my best friend's dad had one indentical to yours. He would take us around their farm crossing creeks, climbing big hills and just hooning it around. Always had a soft spot for them since then.

What are your plans for it?

Same. I've always had a soft spot growing up for one of these. The market is super weird for these cars. Finally when one came around my budget I jumped. I want to get all the maintenance out of the way, then probably get some tires and bumpers.

welcome to the teens club my friend, as in mid teens is all your going to be hoping for for mileage! the 4 speed and 4.30 gears will see to that. Anyway, congrats, its a winner of a truck. I was going to mention about the 2 pinion front pinion, but that was a 98-99 problem so you're set.
